So for DAY 2 I did another set of Halloween costumes. This time they were for my 2 sisters & my nephew. My nephew is the one who decides what the costumes will be every year. In fact he already knows what they will dress up as for next year! Here’s a little background of my nephew…..HE LOVES LEGOS! So this year my sisters & himself are dressing up as mini figurines of Lego Atlantis. My nephew is so into the ocean & has so much knowledge of the deep sea, more than most adults. Some of his favorite sea creates are sharks (all kinds not just great whites), manta rays, squids & Angler fishes. In fact 2 Halloweens ago my mom & I made an Angler fish helmet made from fabric for him. It even included a glowing bio-luminescent made from those clear bubble containers you get toys in from those change machine thingies…LOL! He even knew the word bio-luminescent…not bad for a 3 year old back then. Now being 5 years old, he wanted to dress up as a Manta Ray Warrior from Lego Atlantis. He made the decision for his mother to be the Crab Warrior & my younger sister (his godmother) to be the Shark Warrior, both also from Lego Atlantis. Well, these costumes do not exist at stores to buy….so his Aunt (ME) got to make them for him. He was so excited today to wear them as we went to local weekend Halloween festivities.

Here is what the mini figs look like from Lego Atlantis:

At first I thought they were going to be difficult to make. But in fact they actually ignited the creativity I have inside me & as I got comfortable with my creation thoughts, they were actually very easy to make for them. Seeing my nephew’s reaction was just awesome for me & so made it worth the while & worth the long nights & frustrations.

So here is the final creations:

I started with Dollar Tree Play Helmets. My nephew’s was a Knight Helmet (manta warrior in blue), my older sister’s was a robot helmet (crab warrior in red), & my younger sister’s was a GI helmet (shark warrior in grey).

Manta Warrior – I used poster board to fold out the flaps on the side of the helmet & the bumps on the top of the helmet. I used a paper mache method to cover the entire helmet. Once I did the first fitting, I had to cut & adjust the paper mached  helmet & then used masking tape to reform some areas. I didn’t want to re-do the paper mache caz it was too messy & time consuming. Once I was happy with the shape, I spray painted the whole helmet in royal blue. I added a strip of felt at the chin area to keep it from scratching my nephew’s chin. I added the helmet designs at the top & backside in a lighter blue acrylic paint. Here is a close up of the Manta Ray Warrior:

 This is the front side!

This is the backside!

This is my older sister & she was the Crab Warrior.

For this one, I shaped & molded the helmet using poster board, twisted newspaper & masking take. Once I shaped the head, I moved onto the horns. I rolled up newspaper in its longest length & used a set of 2 to make a tube. I used sheetrock mesh tape to hold the newspaper into a tube & stuffed it with crunched newspaper to hold its shape. They were painted orange & then to make the side horns I used foam sheets cut into long rounded rectangles. Added the facial details to complete the look. Here are close ups…..

My younger sister was the Shark Warrior. This one was the simplest of all. Using the GI Helmet I domed the top using poster board & flattened part of the top to creat the nose of the shark. Added the dorsal fin on the backside also made from poster board & the teeth & bottom of the mouth (used as the chin strap). Painted it using acrylic paint & added the facial details. Here is what it looks like.

So that’s it! Thanks so much for coming back on Day 2! Hope you like what I created…I did…..most importantly, my nephew LOVED IT very much! That in itself made me one HAPPY AUNT!

So onto your next stop……ROBIN! Happy Halloween!!!!

So Now onto My First Halloween Creation for this Hop!

I decided to show off the Halloween Costume I made for my son on this first day of the hop! I am so EXCITED for this Halloween as this is the first year K-Boogie (that’s one of the many nicknames his father has given him) will actually understand & truly participate in, unlike the years before.

So he LOVES the Nick Jr show Team Umizoomi. His favorite character is Geo, the toddler size Shape Super Hero. K-Boogie LOVES shape & I thought this would be a perfect Halloween costume this year.

This is Geo!

This is K-Boogie as Geo!

With the help of the Nick Jr. website, I printed the one dimensional helmet front & the belt shapes & roller skates pattern. Here is what I did!

I printed the helmet face on printer paper, then cut it out. I then traced it onto cardboard & cut that out. Using a strong adhesive, it was a smelly one & had to open my patio door to vent my craft area from the fumes, I glued the helmet face onto a Dollar Store helmet (used to be a knight helmet, as seen in the above picture). I had a strong clamp that I used to hold the cardboard onto the helmet since it is rounded in shape. Once it dried, I spray painted the whole helmet in a royal blue paint. I had to do about 2-3 coats to make sure the color was saturated all over.

I used the pieces in the instructions for the roller skates & cut them first on white cardstock (not the kind I use for card making but for printing). I adjusted the size using K-Boogie’s favorite water shoes before cutting the pattern out of felt. Since the pattern was one dimensional, I had to make adjustments to to make them it 3D skate for K-Boogie to wear over his water shoes. I was able to use Velcro on the inside of the skate to adjust the size around his foot & ensure they stay on his feet. Here is a close up of the skates!

So what’s a super hero without his trusty side kick. Geo actually works as a team with his sister Milly (whom I was supposed to be but ran out of time to make my costume) & his robot friend named Bot. I had seen a stuffed toy of Bot on Etsy & thought to myself “Hey! I can do that!” So I did. I hit Joann’s Fabrics & just $4 later & had all my fleece & felt I needed to make K-Boogie’s Bot. I think I made my mom proud on this one! She is a long time seamstress now is retired & spends her days quilting for others or me & my sisters! I LOVE IT when my mom makes me quilted bags (like Vera Bradley but better caz my mommie made it for me! LOL) Anyways! Here is the Bot I made….not too bad, huh!

Here is K-Boogie showing off his Bot!

Here is my Lil Geo & his Bot! Too Cute!

****************************************************************************

Hope you liked today’s creations. I will post more from this weekend events on Monday after I have had some sleep & cleaned up my mess! LOL! I just noticed too that I forgot to add the swish & antennas on K-Boogie’s helmet so in Monday’s pictures you will see the added features. Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend…Be Safe…Have Fun….Check Your Candy Beofer Eating…& DON’T FORGET TO COME BACK TOMORROW for DAY TWO! THANKS!

So now on to my Hop’s Creations:

I did Halloween themed Treat Bags. I made them from cardstock but got the template from ChicnScratch YouTube Video. She is a Stampin Up Demonstrator & did her video on making mummies, franks, & dracs. I modified it to use what I had in my stash of SVG files. I followed her instructions on how to make the long strip into the holder. Here are the instructions:

1. Cut s strip of either solid or printed cardstock in a 10 inch long by 2 & half inch wide.

2. Score at 2 & 3/16, 2 & 11/16, 6 & 1/8, and 6 & 5/8.

3. Then on the longest end, go about 1/2 inch down & using a word punch (bought it thru my Stampin Up demonstrator) I punched out an opening for the Mini Candy Bar to fit.

4. Then I cut a 2 – 2 inch by 2 & half inch patterned paper (polka dots) to decorate on top of the front flap & the bottom part of the holder. I left the back blank (can use a “To & From” stamp if giving them as treat gifts for school Halloween parties).

5. I used my FAVORITE SVG files, that I downloaded free from her blog (Shery K Designs). They were her Halloween Kids, but unfortunately they are no longer available. Please do check out her blog & store as she does have other fabulous svg files & patterned paper files. She has a great sale going on now til Fri. Oct 21 (oh that’s today! better hurry!) plus some great freebies in her shop!

6. I used adhesive backed Velcro to make the flap able to open & close with ease.

7. Added either Sage Mossy Green, Pumpkin Orange, or Black quarter inch satin ribbon (bought at Joann’s for $1 a roll), using about 8 inches as a handle for the treat holder. Using my ATG gun, I placed adhesive on the top inside fold of the holder.

8. Since I was going to put these at a friend’s booth at our local Craftiques Mall, I wrapped them in clear sheet protectors to keep them from being handled/damaged from those who viewed/purchased them from the Craftiques Mall. I simply cut up clear sheet protectors to the width dimensions I needed & used my ATG gun to seal the end to itself. Plus I added directions to the back of the sheet protector for those who purchased it to remove the protector after purchase.

Here are close ups of each one individually:

This is how the Mini Candy Bar would be placed inside the treat holder. I also added a Happy Halloween Stamped image on all holders but used different inks (orange, purple & green).

Hope you liked my treat holders as I enjoyed making them. Wish I could make more but then where would I store them! I best get to working on my Christmas ones now….LOL! Thanks for stopping by & Happy Crafting!!!

Girls Inc Wreath

Standard

Ok. So I get so happy when my either of my 2 sisters ask if I can use my Cricut to make something for them. I love designing & creating with my SCAL & Cricut. This time it was my younger sister who asked for my help. She is the Program Director for the San Antonio Chapter of Girls Inc. Its a great national organization that help inspire young girls be Strong, Smart, & Bold. Please check out their site & if you are feeling generous, please donate here.

So they had a convention & needed something that represented their chapter of Girls Inc. Well my younger sister is pretty crafty herself (even if she is a lefty, LOL) and came up with the idea of making a Fiesta Wreath. Fiesta is a huge 11 day “Party with a Purpose” here in San Antonio held every year (started in 1891 as a one-parade event and has evolved today into one of this nation’s premier festivals with more than 100 events and an economic impact of almost $284 million for the city.). It is common to see many front doors decorated with very colorful, floral, ribbon infested wreaths. So my sister made one from a raffia wreath, added very colorful paper flower garland. Then added the tin ornaments of young women dressed in traditional Mexican clothing (such as mariachi, floral dresses, etc.) & can’t forget the tin ornament of the Alamo on the top! Oh, you can’t forget the bunches of colorful ribbon, too. She added the Girls Inc. Bill of Rights on wider Red & White Ribbons & attached them to the tin ornaments. It was just beautiful (she takes after her crafty older sister…ME! LOL)!

So where do I & my Cricut come in….well, it was the Pièce de résistance! I created a SVG File of their logo (Girls Inc.) & in my Sure Cuts A Lot program also made a welded shadow of the logo in white textured cardstock. In red cardstock I cut out the shapes that create the Girls Inc logo & glued them onto the white cardstock. I also used my Amy Chomas Gel Pen holder & red glitter pen to write out “Girls Incorporated of San Antonio in a glittery red gel pen and filled in the spaces of the letters to make a solid written text. I also had to cut out 2 white shadowed pieces so that I can add paper twine in between so we could attach it to the center of the wreath….I think it came out pretty good…what do you think?.

My next Girls Inc project are custom Girls Inc. Papel Picado. Be on the look out for that post coming soon! The designs are made, I just need to cut them out!

Til next time – Happy Crafting!!!

HAUNTED HOUSE BLOG HOP!

Standard

Beware! This is a blog hop of haunted houses where Halloween fright is glowing in the windows as ghosts and witches fly through the air…

Please join us and hop along starting with Jearise our hostess. She has provided some Halloween blog candy for all those that leave comments along the way. The drawing will be on October 6th using Random.org. The winner will receive: K & Company Ghostly Greetings 12 x 12 paper pack, Stickles distress glitter glue pack, and EK Sticko’s haunted house sticker pack.

If you have traveled from Janet’s page, then you are on the right road and will continue over to Lisa’s page. If you got lost and found yourself on my doorstep by mistake, you can head to the beginning of the road here: Jearise’s blog!
***********************************************************************

Now, for my Haunted House Project! I was so excited to create a Haunted House. I wanted to challenge myself & do something other than a card or scrapbook layout. I’m not dissing on my fellow hoppers if they happen to do either of those but I needed a challenge…..so this is what I created!

I made a 3D Haunted House by recycling an oatmeal box (those with the individually wrapped oatmeal packs)for the first story of the house, a skinnier box that had snack bars for the second story of the house & 2 single serving cereal boxes for the sides of the first floor. I then added the roof awnings by attaching them with foam board that I inked to make it look like weathered columns.  Let’s look at some close ups!

Here is another close up using my flash on my camera. You can see that the second floor has a nice iron balcony. I “blinged” it up with lime green stones for the tips of the iron-works. Then added some black stones along the center line of the iron-works. You can see my skeleton & googlie eyes on the first floor.

What I love best are my Trick or Treaters who will be attempting to get some candy from this Haunted House. I guess they don’t notice the cobwebs or ghosts that linger on this spooky place.

Seems like the house may have been taken over by spiders as well! If it was me I would RUN!! I HATE SPIDERS – they are too spooky for me!

Here are close-ups of my Trick or Treaters! I don’t know if you can see but it looks like there is a face looking at passer-byers in those long windows! Can you see them? I think they can see YOU……….

Here’s my dancing skeleton & invisible guest with his googlie eyes! Oh & more cobwebs….dang those spiders!

Well, thanks for stopping by…..hope my house wasn’t too scary & keeps you from continuing! There are a lot of great talented ladies here & their work needs to be seen. So hop on over to Lisa’s blog & HAVE A GREAT, SAFE & FUN-FILLED HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!
