Barbara’s 50th Birthday Celebration ~ Day 3

Standard

So today is the last day & I have had so much fun! I truly wish I was on an island somewhere vacationing (by myself) & away from reality. I would have to take my Cricut & some supplies so I can sit out on the terrace & create. I’d have a chef to make my meals & a butler to get me anything I wanted & keep those Pina Coladas on a roll! HEY….a girl can dream! LOL!

So here’s a note from Barbara: This is the final day of our hop.  I would like to thank the lovely ladies in this hop for helping me celebrate my 50th Birthday with a Luau theme hop.  I would also like to thank the hoppers for joining us to celebrate my birthday.

If you have just joined the blog hop please be sure to check out the prior posts from Tuesday and Monday for the entire line up.  Still have a chance to win some blog candy.  I had a great time, and I am truly in awe of the talented ladies in this hop.

More from Barbara: I will post the winners on Thursday night.  So, check back to see if you are a winner.  Again, thanks to the lovely ladies of this hop and to the hoppers for making this a truly fun birthday.
So without further ado, here is my final creation for this hop!
~Luau Themed Cupcake Wrapper~
The wrapper was made using SCAL, my Cricut & a plain cupcake wrapper I got from Michelle at ScrappingTable (that is where I bought my SCAL a year before the whole lawsuit fiasco). I added the Hibiscus flower I used in yesterday’s creation in the cupcake tower (also seen in this picture) in the center of the wrapper. I found a nice font on my computer & used it in SCAL. I “Un-grouped” the text & moved/angled each individual letter onto the cupcake wrapper & welded the text to the top of the wrapper. I cut it out on plain Turquoise cardstock from The Paper Studio. I glued a piece of Yellow Cardstock (also TPS) to the back of the wrapper to make the Hibiscus pop out of the wrapper. I inked the letters on top of the wrapper with “Pear Pizzazz” from Stampin Up. Then made some chocolate cupcakes, frosted with chocolate frosting, added sprinkles & TA-DA! Can’t go wrong with chocolate!
Barbara, as much as I wish I could send you the cupcakes I made….there was someone else who enjoyed them for you….my 3 year old son Keifer!
How about that chomp into the cupcake! He LOVES cupcakes & this was right up his alley…PLUS it was CHOCOLATE!
Here is another picture of the cupcake wrapper:
Now, hop on over to Gina, and see the beautiful creations she has made for the hop.

Barbara’s 50th Birthday Luau Blog Hop ~ DAY 2

Standard

Thanks for returning back to the hop today! We saw quite a few great projects yesterday! My favorite was Tammy’s “Aloha” Board Book on The Purple Muse blog. What was yours?

Well onto day 2 of the Hop so here is my second project! ~A Tiki Centerpiece~

Just a little background on me, I am a Stay At Home Mother & I have my own Custom Party Supply business from home. I do A LOT of Yo Gabba Gabba party decorations so my inner Party Planner had to show up to make something for this Birthday Blog Hop.  What better idea than A Centerpiece. Every table at a party needs a great centerpiece, right? So here is mine!

Here is how I made it:

  1. The Tiki base, cylinder, & top was made from the 3D Pencil Box of the “School Days SVG Kit from SVG Cuts website. You can buy the set here. I just did not cut out the top part of the pencil & just used the bottom base for the top as well as the bottom.  I then found a Tiki face clip art online that I converted from a JPeg file to a Cut file in Inkscape. I then sized it up in SCAL & cut it in a yellow, purple & tan colored cardstock (3 different sheets). After paper piecing the face together, I did cut the mouth section out from the cylinder (I used brown poster board) & using my ATG gun I glued a 4×4 square piece of clear acetate (I recycled old clear report covers I had from college that I knew I could use again someday). I inked up the edges of the face pieces before gluing them to the cylinder base to make it looked aged. I then also edged the brown tiki with a tan ink & brown ink to also give it a weathered look.  I did forget to buy a LED Tealight but the light from it would shine thru the teeth of the Tiki to make it look like it’s angry! But that was the reason for me cutting a section from the base out, so that I can make it into a luminaria in case the Luau went into the night time.
  1. Now it would look cute alone or sitting on top of a cupcake stand, which I also made. I used green cardstock from The Paper Studio, base is textured cardstock & the top part is plain green cardstock. I used the base that I found on Aleisha Davis Designs blog as a free file. I didn’t care too much for the round top & I liked a more finished look with a square top. So I quickly created one in SCAL then I decided to add small palm trees to make it more into the Luau theme. I added a strip of yellow on the back side of the flaps to let the palm trees show up better.
  2. A centerpiece can’t be without flowers. So I wanted some Hibiscus flowers but didn’t think I have a SVG file for them. So I searched for just the right clip art & converted it into a cut file in Inkscape. I imported it into SCAL & made a shadow of it to make a base in Purple cardstock (from Stampin Up), I made another shadow but that was smaller than the purple base in flat yellow cardstock & inked it in red ink & then used textured cardstock from the Paper Studio in orange for the flower petals. I sprayed the petals with my Glitter Shimmer, also from Stampin Up (you can order from my rep if you don’t have one here). I used my golden glitter spray for the petals to give it that “bling”. I then cut the sides of the petals once I glued the pieces together & “cupped” the petals up & curled them back. So that way they can sit nicely under the stand & look realistic rather than a flat paper pieced flower.
Hope you like today’s creation. I LOVE making party supplies so this was a real treat to make for Barbara! Thanks for stopping by again! Hope to see you tomorrow!
Now onto the next blog  – GINA!

So here is my DAY ONE CREATION – Barbara’s Birthday Card!

Inside Card would read: May your 50th birthday celebration be a beautiful as a golden sunset on a topical island! Best Wishes to you for today, tomorrow & forever! ~ Cyndie

The Card says on the front – Have A Wave-tasic Birthday!

Here is what I used:

  1. Actual Card cardstock is from the Paper Studio’s Textured Cardstock Pack in Baby Blue. It was inked with the Stucco ink pad from the Classic Pigment Cat’s Eye Ink Pads.
  2. Pretty Glitter Stripes Peach sheet from a small paper stack from “Tahiti” Beach Stack printed paper by DCWV.
  3. Striped cardstock was mounted on solid grey cardstock from the Paper Studio & embossed with the Cuttlebug “Tiny Bubbles” folder.
  4. The wave is solid colored cardstock also from the Paper Studio but I sprayed it with Stampin Up‘s Glitter Inks in a mini sprayer. (LOVE THEM!) I hand wrote the text on the wave. I wanted to use my Amy Chomas gel pens but didn’t realize I needed a new silver glitter pen so I used my white (regular size) gel pen.
  5. The Surfer Girl is a pattern from Scrappy Dew. I am a part of their design team & I was so happy to be able to use this SVG they have in their collections. Check them out here. For the surf board, I cut out a border from the “Tahiti” Beach paper stack & used it as a design for the board. I also inked the edges of the board with Dune Pigment from the Color Box Classic Pigment Cat’s Eye Ink Pads to make it look like there was sand on the board. I also used a glitter flower from the same paper stack to use as part of the T-shirt design.
I so enjoyed making this card for Barbara! I wish her all the best & thanks again for visiting my blog. Please come back tomorrow as I will have a different project made in the Luau Theme!
Aloha!

Eve of First Ever Blog Hop!

Standard

So tomorrow is the first ever Blog Hop I have participated in since I started my blog a few months ago. I have met a great group on Facebook who share information & crafting assistance. Plus there is a specific group to those who are blog addicts….you couldn’t tell I am one due to the lack of daily posts here. LOL! BUT I PROMISE you that will change! I have lots of info & creations I want to share with all my crafting buddies out there.

So here’s to all my crafting buddies out there…hope you enjoy everyone’s Luau Themed creations & a HUGE HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the host of the blog – Barbara! May all your crafting dreams come true! And thanks for allowing me to participate in your birthday blog hop!!!

My Attempt to Organize

Image

Okay! I have more Party orders coming in & it’s getting more difficult to work in my little space. As you can see it’s quite an U.G.L.Y. mess! So I have decided to re-organize my madness. I’ve pulled out my vacuum to get all those little pieces of paper on the carpet (wish I had a tiled floor like my mom’s sewing room) & have pulled out the dust wiped to clean the shelves.

I’ve been struggling on how to organize my scrap paper. As you can see, it is starting to grow too much. I know there are others out there who have larger stashes but I can not let it get out of hand as I do not have the space. Finally the light bulb in my head turned on…pizza boxes! My little 3 yr old son & I LOVE PIZZA! He can run around the house saying “Tizza, Tizza!” It’s too cute. Guess me eating nothing but pizza while I was pregnant left a huge craving for it for him! LOL!! Well, I was thinking since I save my frozen pizza boxes (I love Red Barron Pizza & their boxes are great to recycle) for either shipping small orders or using them in chipboard projects, I could use those to hold my paper scraps. I didn’t realize I had so many boxes. I haven’t really started any chipboard projects, but have many ready to start, but also my Party orders have been large orders & have had to use bigger boxes to ship them. Praise God for that blessing!!! So I sorted my colors & cut off the top flaps of the boxes. I will then wrap them in gift wrap paper & label the side of the color that it will store. Now I will be able to stack them up & hold them together with bookends. I will post more pictures when I am done with that project.

I am struggling on how to re-organize my shelves above my work space & the standing wooden shelf. It will be an interesting afternoon getting this together. I am trying to remove that table where I have my paper scraps sorted out.  That table is not supposed to be a permanent fixture in my area. I use it when I do large party orders & need to paint my games that I make for Yo Gabba Gabba parties. Its been awhile since I last painted & I’m sure my hubby would like to use the patio door here soon so he could tend to his herb garden better. He’s been so good about me blocking this patio entrance. Guess since it’s been so HOT here in Texas, he hasn’t had the urge to BBQ in the heat. Hopefully with cooler temps he will BBQ a little more. I just LOVE his BBQ – heck , his cooking in general!

Okay! Back to the subject at hand. I am also going to attempt to organize my SVG files. I have SO MANY of them & I want to make sure I use them. So as we go into the Holiday Season (on Facebook, the Cricut Craft Room page kindly reminded us there are 18 weeks til Christmas, Oh No!) I want to know what I have for those quick projects. I will post any good ideas I see or read from other blogs! So wish me luck as I go into the trenches! LOL!!!

Been Awhile

Standard

So sorry it’s been awhile since I posted anything. Once August hit, it has been a whirlwind of thing to do. School is about to begin for my 12 yr old step son, middle school at that! I’m still debating on putting my 3 yr old son in head-start. I keep thinking “Wow, that’s 15 yrs of school & not to mention more with college”! So the mom in me doesn’t want to let him go, yet the business woman in me say “Let him go! You’ll have more quiet time to work!” I’m sure the business woman in me will win…..as my husband really encourages me to let go, too! We shall see…..

Well, I did a small project (so I thought) for my older sister. She needed a Spirit Stick for her Early Childhood Elementary Center for the new school year. So yesterday afternoon I packed up my Cricut, stuff, my 3 yr old & headed to spend the “afternoon” at her home. Being so tedious can be good but last night it was so bad. I just wanted it to look good! So after finishing by 11 pm, on a school night, this is what I completed! She produced the concept & I did the designing & cutting. I SO LOVE MY Sure Cuts A Lot PROGRAM! I can do just about anything! I like it! What do you think?!
