My New Cutting Machine

Standard

So I’ve been using a Cricut Expression for the past year & a half in making anything paper. I loved it, still do but its on to bigger & better things. Just this past Friday evening, I was able to purchase the new Silhouette Cameo. I am just so over joyed with glee! I have already downloaded the software onto my computer & I am learning how to use it. That way once it gets here, I know exactly what to do. I got a great deal on it from Oh My Crafts website. The purchase didn’t qualify for the free shipping but having that 25% off coupon code sure did help. I was able to get it for about $217.

I was going to get the Sizzix Eclips. The feature that blew me away on that machine was that it scored & had a laser printer. I was reluctant to purchase & in my “Off Topic” Facebook Selling Group, I posted a message basically begging the ladies to tell me to purchase it. Instead, they convinced me to purchase the Cameo. I have to agree with them. I looked it up on line, as well as many reviews. I especially liked the review made from Jin from the Under the Cherry Tree blog. I have followed her blog for over a year & I am always in “AWE” of her creativity & knowledge of all this paper crafting. So I made the plunge….with hubby’s debit card…LOL!

So what am I to do with my Cricut….well, sell it! I am selling my Teal Expression along with 5-12×12 mats, 2-12×24 mats, SCAL2 (CD), & the svg files I have collected free online & from Scrappingtable.com when I purchased SCAL2. I am selling the whole set for $250. I think that is a good amount of a deal. I just hope someone will purchase it!

Oh, for those who already have a Cameo, I have a great offer for you. There is a discount deal going on at Plum District. You get $50 worth in Silhouette merchandise for $30 BUT if you use the coupon code SLCPLUM20 you get a 20% discount off that deal. Making it only $24 for $50 worth of Silhouette merchandise. If you choose to take this deal, can you please use my code:

http://www.plumdistrict.com/three_for_free/14e2abfbb3/click

This is a get 3 for free offer. If you use my code & I have another 2 people use my code, I get the $24 I just paid returned to my account. Making this a free deal! I LOVE FREE!!! Then You can do the same. Get 3 friends to purchase from your link &  then your’s is FREE! Cool Huh?!

Thanks for reading my post & comment if you purchased from my link! Then add yours so others who need to buy from someone’s link can buy from yours & so on! Let’s help each other get some free stuff!!!

Until next time! Keep on crafting!

It’s My Party Blog Hop

It’s My Party Blog Hop

Welcome to our Party Decor Blog Hop. We have a fantastic group of ladies who love to make party decorations and we are excited to share our projects with you today! If you just happened to find my blog, thank-you so much. However, so you don’t miss awesome projects or the chance to win blog candy, you will want to start at the beginning at Laurie’s page.

On a personal note, I LOVE to make party supplies. In fact, I used to have a shop on Etsy for it but it just got too frustrating with the constant increase in shipping charges & many customers wanted to “cheapen” the cost of my product. Unless you are a crafter & understand how much time goes into perfecting your creations, you know & sympathize for my reasoning to just stop selling online. Since I enjoy doing this craft so much, I am now going to open up a booth here at my local craft shop to sell my creations with out price negotiations. LOL!

My project for this hop came in perfect timing for my nephew’s 6th birthday party. He turns 6 on May 15th & my own son turns 4 on May 19th. So it makes for a very busy month in April to make so many party supplies for the next month worth of parties. I choose this year to do the Peter Piper Pizza for my son since he LOVES pizza & is going to LOVE the ball pit.

My nephew had this theme ready to go since the day of last year’s party (last year we did a pirate theme, including “Real” Pirates as his “LIVE” entertainment). It’s his tradition to choose what his next theme would be & luckily he has never changed his mind later in the year to a different theme. So this year’s theme is LEGOs!!! This little boy just LOVES his Legos, I know I did when I was younger. He is already completing (with the help of my dad caz there always seems to be more “extra” pieces than usual) in these 1000+ sets he does. I make fun of him caz he gets into his “Angry Bird” face while he is concentrating on his Lego project.

So being the good Aunt that I am plus it helps that I have a Cricut & know how to use it very well, I am making all his party decorations. For this hop I will show off the Table Centerpiece & his Name Banner. I will later post more projects as I complete them plus another post about the party. SO be on the look out for that (good if you followed my blog to get the email about it)! LOL

HERE IS THE LEGO MINI FIGURE CENTERPIECE

…..There will be 3 centerpieces for the party. This one has a Red Base & the other 2 will have a Blue Base & Yellow Base. It is planned to use a table runner of bubble wrap (spray painted green) to resemble the Lego Base Plate.

I used a box I had after my mom gave me a Pampered Chef glass container. I wrapped it in red cardstock then began the designing of the Mini-Fig svg on my SCAL2 software. I downloaded the Lego Thick font from Urbanfonts.com website. Using my SCAL2 software, I was able to use this font to cut the number 6 & the text in the banner the mini-fig is holding using my Cricut. I had Popsicle sticks left over from last year’s party that I used this year as the means for the mini-fig to hold the banner. Oh, I forgot to mentioned that I put some Styrofoam block inside the box before wrapping it so that I can use a Bamboo Skewer to hold the Mini-Fig standing up. After I did all this, I sat back & thought….”This can’t be it…I need more ‘pizzazz’ for it to be a centerpiece”. I moved away from it & then it hit me….wrap the bottom like a pinata! So I had some leftover tissue paper from my Yo Gabba Gabba party decoration days that I used to wrap the bottom. Then using yellow curling ribbon, I outlined the top of the box with my Scotch ATG gun to adhere the ribbon to the box. I think it looks great! Most importantly, the birthday boy thinks so too!!!

This is close ups of the Lego Bricks sitting on top of the centerpiece & the banner the Mini-Fig is holding.

HERE IS THE NAME BANNER

…Being that the centerpieces had “Happy Birthday Nathaniel” I chose to just use his name in the banner. #1 caz his name is so long & #2 he can recycle the use of it in his playroom….

To make the Lego bricks at the end, I cut a Blue 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheet of cardstock in half to make it 5.5 x 8.5″. I printed LEGO bumps that I found here, onto clear full sheet labels. Using foam board that I cut into 1×1″ squares, I popped the Lego Bumps up on the half sheet of cardstock.

I then cut out his name using the Lego Thick font, my SCAL2 & my Cricut. I layered each letter using white textured cardstock, black textured cardstock, & plain yellow cardstock. I always use The Paper Studio’s cardstock as I LOVE Hobby Lobby (& their coupons)! I bought some red poster board from the Dollar Store & cut out 6×8″ rectangles to layer the letters onto it. Using my Fisckers Paper Trimmer, I came down 1/2 inch from the top & either side to cut a slit 1/2 inch long. I threaded blue curling ribbon thru each of these slits to be able to string out his name. In between his letters, I made a simple Lego Mini-Fig Head in SCAL2. I used a rounded square as the head portion & a smaller rounded square for the top portion. Using a 1.5 inch circle for the eyes & a half circle for the mouth, I made his face features. I bought yellow poster board, also from the Dollar Store (don’t you just love the dollar store!) & used my 12×24 Cricut mats to quickly cut out 8 mini-fig heads. Using 1 sheet of 8.5×11 sheet of black cardstock, I was able to cut out the face features & ran them thru my Xyron sticker maker for a quick assembly.

I have enjoyed so far making my nephew’s party decorations. It has stretched my creativity that I so needed to get out of my Crafty Depression…LOL! I can’t wait to do more supply shopping this weekend with my sister so that I can make more stuff for his party. I am making a huge surprise for him, so you will have to come back to see what else I make for him!

Thanks so much for stopping by but don’t forget….There is Blog Candy!!!

Teacher Thank You Gifts Blog Hop

Welcome to the Teacher Thank You Gifts Blog Hop ! You should have just come from Dena’s blog. If you’re just joining us and wish to start from the beginning, please hop on over to Dena’s blog (http://missdjones.blogspot.com/ ).

Teacher Appreciation Week this year begins on May 7th and ends on May 11th. If you’re looking for some teacher thank you gift ideas, you’ve come to the right place! Each of the designers in today’s hop are sharing a wonderful gift idea for a teacher. We hope you have fun hopping with us while picking up some great ideas!

On a personal note, this hop is very near & dear to me. I come from a long line of teachers. My father is a teacher & coach, my older sister was a pre-k/Kinder teacher & is now an Instructional Facilitator. I have many cousins & Aunts who are teachers as well as many of friends. I, myself, went back to school to get my teacher certification in Secondary Education focusing on Mathematics. But I am 34 hours away from completing such task….it’s the Linear Algebra that keeps me away…LOL! Anyways, being surrounded & very much influenced by the teachers in my family, I have come to see the nobility in the career but have also seen the unappreciativeness of the industry. This was why I was happy to join in on this hop. I hope more people can see the love these people put into your children. It is our teachers who are raising our leaders of tomorrow & for that they deserve our utmost respect & appreciation.  I hope you all enjoy the projects I created in honor of our great teachers!

My Project: Banana Nut Mini Muffins with a Pencil Candy Holder & School House Photo Album

I had seen this Pencil Candy Holder online somewhere & there were so many variations to create it. I took my own measurements & did my own mistakes but came up with the following:;

#1. Took YELLOW cardstock & cut a 6 3/4″ x 6 3/4″ square. Then scored it at 1 3/4″, 2″, 2 3/4″, 4, 4 3/4″ & at 5″. I also inked the edges & score lines with my Yellow Crayola Marker (I wished I had the Stampin Up Daffodil Delight Ink pad, but working on building up my inks still).

2. Took a deep PINK cardstock & Cut a 6 3/4″ x 1″ rectangle. Then scored it at 1 3/4″, 2, 4 3/4″ & 5″. I also inked the edges with my Stampin Up Blushing Bride pink ink pad.

3. Took brown craft colored cardstock (didn’t have my Stampin Up Crumb Cake cardstock yet, but I do now) & cut it in a 2 3/4″ x 2 1/2″ square. Then scored the 2 3/4″ side by 3/4″ & cut it to a point. At the point, using a black Sharpie, I colored in a triangular shape to look like the pencil lead.

4. Took Chrome metal cardstock & cut it 6 3/4″ x 1/2″ rectangle. Then scored it at  1 3/4″, 2″, 4 3/4″ & at 5″.

5. I first attached the bottom portion of pencil to the yellow cardstock. I also cut out of the brown craft cardstock a 3/4″ x 2 3/4″ & scored it every 1/4″. I used this to create a bottom closed area for when you slip in the candy bar, it doesn’t fall out.

6. I then attached the pink cardstock about 1/4″ on top of the yellow cardstock.

7. Finally, after embossing the Chrome metal cardstock with the Houndstooth Embossing Folder from Provocraft, I attached it using my Scotch ATG gun in between the yellow & pink cardstock.

8. I added a Thank You tag using my Decorative Label Punch from Stampin Up & the stamped image is also from a Stampin Up stamp from the collection called Engraved Greetings. I added 4 clear rhinestones to add a little “Bling”.

This created my Pencil Candy Holder.

For my second project, I did a School House Mini Album. I was inspired by a blog I was directed to called scrapinfusions by Connie Prince. She had a free printable download of the school house album (go here if you wish to download it from her page). I am not one to do printables so I did download the file but I went a step further & imported into Inkscape & create an svg to use with my Cricut (I use SCAL2 to cut svg’s with  my Cricut). I thought it would be a quick project, but I was sooooo wrong! The creating into an svg & cutting the school house out was very easy. It was until I started decorating the pages that I got so into it & hours flew by so fast!!! Now, I don’t buy chipboard…..I RECYCLE! In fact I have so many cereal boxes, oatmeal boxes, cracker boxes & FROZEN PIZZA BOXES! My 3 yr old & I LOVE pizza (guess eating pizza once a week when I was pregnant got my little boy to love it as much as me, LOL)! So I used my pizza boxes to create the base of the school house pages. Here is my project up close:

Image

For the front cover I used a light great as my base color. Then layered basic colors in cardstock & embossed my shrubs in the Swiss Dot embossing folder & the window panes with the Square Lattice folder from Stampin Up. I inked some of the edges with Chocolate Chip brown ink from Stampin Up.

Image

These are my next 2 pages. All my patterned paper is from The Paper Studio. I used loose sheets & 2 paper packs (my Seasonal stack & Color Kaleidoscope). The cute little bear is an SVG from the Back to School collection from Scrappy Dew. I used my SCAL2 software to weld 2011 & SEPT together & shadowed to create a base for the letters & numbers.

ImageImage

These next 2 photos are of the Oct. page. I creates a “pull open” photo extender. I used Twine to create the closure & made a tab using the side portion of my Decorative Label Punch. I love that I can create new smaller tabs using this once punch….love multipurpose!

Image

The Nov. page has a cute little bear, also from the Back to School collection from Scrappy Dew.

ImageImage

The Dec. page has 2 photos showing the “drop down” photo extender. Used the Decorative Label Punch to create another small punch & also used the Dotted Scalloped Ribbon Punch to place a border at the location where the twine was attached.

Image

Jan. is a single photo page. Just welded text & numbers for this page.

ImageImage

Feb.’s page has a “drop down” photo extender with some pages embossed with hearts & a damask design. I used The Paper Studio’s “Hearts” embossing folder (inked the top with Stampin Up Cherry Cobbler Ink) & the Sizzix (Stampin Up) Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder (inked with Stampabilities Silver Pigment Ink Pad).

ImageImage

Mar.’s page has a “pull open like a book” photo extender. I inked the patterned paper with Stampin Up Chocolate Chip ink.

Image

April’s page has another cute bear holding scissors from the Back to School collection from Scrappy Dew.

ImageImage

My last 2 pages are for May. The top page has the “pull open like a book” photo extender. The second page has another paper pieced pattern from the Back to School collection from Scrappy Dew. Instead of using their Ruler svg file, I cut a piece of yellow cardstock & embossed it with a ruler embossing edger from Provocraft. Then inked the edges & the raised area with Stampin Up’s Chocolate Chip ink.

Well, that is my project! I enjoyed making it & very happy to be sharing it with you. So please Please hop on over to Mindy’s blog next to check out the thank you gift she’s created for a special teacher. THANK YOU & THANK A TEACHER!!!  Have a great Sunday!

Easter Picture Layout

Standard

Hi Everyone! I know it’s been so long since I have last posted. I am so sorry for that but I think I am back on track! I started to get ready for Spring with a little cleaning & realized I needed to use some of my crafting stuff!

So, I dusted off my Cricut & set up a layout on SCAL to cut my paper piecing project. I LOVE being a part of the Scrappy Dew design team & I LOVE their cutting files. I had so much fun using their Easter collection & they have so much to choose from in their store

So without further ado…..here is my creation using their FABULOUS product!

Image

Here is my 11×14 layout I made to be framed using the Easter collection! I used the Visiting the Bunny w/the little boy & the eggs were from the Easter Chicks collection. So fun to make!

Now onto my next project….should I do pirates or ballet? So many designs to choose from, so go check out Scrappy Dew’s website, now! LOL!

Thanks for visiting!!!

Sorry for My Absence!

Standard

My apologies for not posting anything for quite a long while. Things at home have been in an uproar….from being sick to caring for sick kids to having to move to a new place at the first of December. I was so excited for the holiday season & now it seems to have gotten away from me for crafting. So I will note for next year, START EARLY! Doubt it will happen but it will be on my list…LOL!

Anyways, I have lots of things I will be working on for the New Year! This I am working on now. I will start offering free files online, selling files & other things online & doing more tutorials via video or thru downloaded PDF files. I am also working on re-vamping my blog site. I will keep you all posted if anything major changes – as of now no big news other than the layout & formatting of my blog info.

I want to wish all my new friends a Happy & Joyous Christmas! A Happy & Safe New Year! It’s difficult not to get wrapped up in the materialism of Christmas but this season is really about FAMILY! Whether its family by blood or family by friends, the IMPORTANT THING for this season is to spread the love of God to everyone, be grateful for what you have – no matter how much or how little you have. And how family will always be there for you when you need them.

This Christmas I might be spending it away from my husband & step son. This has been a testing year in my marriage but I TRUST in God that all will be just the way he has planned for us. I spent last Christmas not with my parents & sisters, the first time in 35 years (all my life) but this year I do hope to be with them (yet my heart will be with my hubby – step son will be with his mother this year). It’s tough when you have to opt out of family gatherings due to work obligations. I pray everyone gets to their holiday festivities safely & merrily!

So this will probably be my last post for this year & pick up in January. Here’s to a BIGGER, BRIGHTER & BETTER NEW YEAR! I will keep in touch!

So for DAY 2 I did another set of Halloween costumes. This time they were for my 2 sisters & my nephew. My nephew is the one who decides what the costumes will be every year. In fact he already knows what they will dress up as for next year! Here’s a little background of my nephew…..HE LOVES LEGOS! So this year my sisters & himself are dressing up as mini figurines of Lego Atlantis. My nephew is so into the ocean & has so much knowledge of the deep sea, more than most adults. Some of his favorite sea creates are sharks (all kinds not just great whites), manta rays, squids & Angler fishes. In fact 2 Halloweens ago my mom & I made an Angler fish helmet made from fabric for him. It even included a glowing bio-luminescent made from those clear bubble containers you get toys in from those change machine thingies…LOL! He even knew the word bio-luminescent…not bad for a 3 year old back then. Now being 5 years old, he wanted to dress up as a Manta Ray Warrior from Lego Atlantis. He made the decision for his mother to be the Crab Warrior & my younger sister (his godmother) to be the Shark Warrior, both also from Lego Atlantis. Well, these costumes do not exist at stores to buy….so his Aunt (ME) got to make them for him. He was so excited today to wear them as we went to local weekend Halloween festivities.

Here is what the mini figs look like from Lego Atlantis:

At first I thought they were going to be difficult to make. But in fact they actually ignited the creativity I have inside me & as I got comfortable with my creation thoughts, they were actually very easy to make for them. Seeing my nephew’s reaction was just awesome for me & so made it worth the while & worth the long nights & frustrations.

So here is the final creations:

I started with Dollar Tree Play Helmets. My nephew’s was a Knight Helmet (manta warrior in blue), my older sister’s was a robot helmet (crab warrior in red), & my younger sister’s was a GI helmet (shark warrior in grey).

Manta Warrior – I used poster board to fold out the flaps on the side of the helmet & the bumps on the top of the helmet. I used a paper mache method to cover the entire helmet. Once I did the first fitting, I had to cut & adjust the paper mached  helmet & then used masking tape to reform some areas. I didn’t want to re-do the paper mache caz it was too messy & time consuming. Once I was happy with the shape, I spray painted the whole helmet in royal blue. I added a strip of felt at the chin area to keep it from scratching my nephew’s chin. I added the helmet designs at the top & backside in a lighter blue acrylic paint. Here is a close up of the Manta Ray Warrior:

 This is the front side!

This is the backside!

This is my older sister & she was the Crab Warrior.

For this one, I shaped & molded the helmet using poster board, twisted newspaper & masking take. Once I shaped the head, I moved onto the horns. I rolled up newspaper in its longest length & used a set of 2 to make a tube. I used sheetrock mesh tape to hold the newspaper into a tube & stuffed it with crunched newspaper to hold its shape. They were painted orange & then to make the side horns I used foam sheets cut into long rounded rectangles. Added the facial details to complete the look. Here are close ups…..

My younger sister was the Shark Warrior. This one was the simplest of all. Using the GI Helmet I domed the top using poster board & flattened part of the top to creat the nose of the shark. Added the dorsal fin on the backside also made from poster board & the teeth & bottom of the mouth (used as the chin strap). Painted it using acrylic paint & added the facial details. Here is what it looks like.

So that’s it! Thanks so much for coming back on Day 2! Hope you like what I created…I did…..most importantly, my nephew LOVED IT very much! That in itself made me one HAPPY AUNT!

So onto your next stop……ROBIN! Happy Halloween!!!!

Hi Everyone! Thanks for joining us all for a great Halloween Blog Hop! I am so excited to show what I did for this hop as I have worked long & hard on all my creations. So Now onto My First Halloween Creation for this Hop!

I decided to show off the Halloween Costume I made for my son on this first day of the hop! I am so EXCITED for this Halloween as this is the first year K-Boogie (that’s one of the many nicknames his father has given him) will actually understand & truly participate in, unlike the years before.

So he LOVES the Nick Jr show Team Umizoomi. His favorite character is Geo, the toddler size Shape Super Hero. K-Boogie LOVES shape & I thought this would be a perfect Halloween costume this year.

This is Geo!

This is K-Boogie as Geo!

With the help of the Nick Jr. website, I printed the one dimensional helmet front & the belt shapes & roller skates pattern. Here is what I did!

I printed the helmet face on printer paper, then cut it out. I then traced it onto cardboard & cut that out. Using a strong adhesive, it was a smelly one & had to open my patio door to vent my craft area from the fumes, I glued the helmet face onto a Dollar Store helmet (used to be a knight helmet, as seen in the above picture). I had a strong clamp that I used to hold the cardboard onto the helmet since it is rounded in shape. Once it dried, I spray painted the whole helmet in a royal blue paint. I had to do about 2-3 coats to make sure the color was saturated all over.

I used the pieces in the instructions for the roller skates & cut them first on white cardstock (not the kind I use for card making but for printing). I adjusted the size using K-Boogie’s favorite water shoes before cutting the pattern out of felt. Since the pattern was one dimensional, I had to make adjustments to to make them it 3D skate for K-Boogie to wear over his water shoes. I was able to use Velcro on the inside of the skate to adjust the size around his foot & ensure they stay on his feet. Here is a close up of the skates!

So what’s a super hero without his trusty side kick. Geo actually works as a team with his sister Milly (whom I was supposed to be but ran out of time to make my costume) & his robot friend named Bot. I had seen a stuffed toy of Bot on Etsy & thought to myself “Hey! I can do that!” So I did. I hit Joann’s Fabrics & just $4 later & had all my fleece & felt I needed to make K-Boogie’s Bot. I think I made my mom proud on this one! She is a long time seamstress now is retired & spends her days quilting for others or me & my sisters! I LOVE IT when my mom makes me quilted bags (like Vera Bradley but better caz my mommie made it for me! LOL) Anyways! Here is the Bot I made….not too bad, huh!

Here is K-Boogie showing off his Bot!

Here is my Lil Geo & his Bot! Too Cute!

I just noticed too that I forgot to add the swish & antennas on K-Boogie’s helmet so in Monday’s pictures you will see the added features. Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend…Be Safe…Have Fun….Check Your Candy Beofer Eating…& DON’T FORGET TO COME BACK TOMORROW for DAY TWO! THANKS!
